Eastern Subterranean Termite

Eastern Subterranean Termites are the most common termites in the United States and are native to the Southeastern portion of the country. This termite species lives underground in colonies that include workers, soldiers, and reproductives. Workers gather food and maintain the nest while soldiers defend the colony against threats. Reproductives are responsible for producing offspring and establishing new colonies.

Subterranean termites can be found in different parts of a home. First, they may be in the studs, which are like the bones of the walls. Secondly, they often target the paper covering on either side of the sheetrock, a common occurrence due to the ease with which termites can forage into living areas. Third, though less common, termites may also infest wallpaper because they hide well and can cause a lot of damage.
