A History Reach County
Bulloch County, established in 1796, was named after Archibald Bulloch, Georgia's first Provisional Governor. Originally spanning 1,200 square miles, it underwent several boundary changes over the years. The county seat, Statesborough, was founded in 1803. Despite the poor land quality, its residents thrived through industry and economy, relying on game and orchard produce.
After the Civil War, population growth accelerated, with the county seat, Statesboro, seeing significant development. Agriculture, including cotton, tobacco, peanuts, and livestock, drove the economy. In 1906, Georgia Southern University was established, further shaping the county's identity.
